The screen area is divided into three areas:
- The top part, which contain general information about the material being read, and offering globally useful links: user information, link to the course’s table of contents, user files and help
- The left part of the screen is devoted to information more directly related to the current lesson: direct navigation within the lesson, navigation to the surrounding lessons, concepts and links used in the lesson, etc.
- The rest of the screen is left for the contents of the course. Within that area, the author has a great freedom in shaping the contents of his material: use of tables, illustrations and all kinds of Internet links.
- Text styles are centrally controlled throughout the entire site by the using of Cascading Style Sheets. Authors are thus not supposed to use non-standard fonts or sizes in their text, although exceptions are always possible if necessary.
