Electronic publishing process
Nowadays, the classical publishing process is still used for most commercial publishing work. It is, however, challenged by other publishing models that better correspond to the present needs of both authors and readers. Figure 2 shows the most current model used to produce business reports and small- to middle-sized documents, using a computer for both manuscript preparation and editing work. Note that in this model, the “publisher” and the “editor” have disappeared, as well as the “printer” (which is now the name of a machine!). All these functions are now concentrated on the author, possibly helped by a supervisor and auxiliary personnel within his organization.
